For maximum deer protection we recommend at least a 7 5 high deer fence to protect crops from deer damage.
Fence height to keep deer out.
If deer are expected not to leap over a simple vertical fence then the fence must be higher than the maximum height that a typical deer can jump which can be as high as 8 feet.
White tailed deer can jump almost eight feet high so effective upright fences against them should be this high.
But it may have been chased by a predatory animal such as a coyote or wolf it s unknown.
The deer will try walking under the fence and meet resistance.
Deer can be a real problem in a yard or garden.
So a fence may not be as high perhaps six feet but slanted outward.
They are constructed similarly to high tensile steel fences and used with 10 foot tall posts set 20 feet apart.
Deer may be able to jump high but not both high and over a distance.
There are many types of fencing available and several different ways to install it effectively.
If deer are still eating your plants despite using repellents and deer resistant plants you may want to consider a deer proof fence to keep them out.
However white tail deer cannot jump both 8 feet high and 8 feet across.
Fences made of square mesh wire are also effective.
On average a standard white tailed deer can jump 8 feet high so your fence can be approximately that high to prevent these deer from leaping into your property.
In one case a deer jumped a 15 deer fence.
Another opinion is to to build a six feet high fence that is angled outward.
